Internet & political campaigning...

Political campaigning and the internet...
As early as the 1990s, politicians have been using the internet to promote their campaign advocacy and it has proved to be very successful. These politicians made use of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, MySpace etc. Micro-targetting is seen here in the recent presidential election when a strategy is used to pick out and persuade new voters to vote for a particular candidate. Strategies used by these politicians invoved, online voting, fundraising etc.
Take a look at this very short video which explains Obama's successful usage of the social media...

How is multimedia used for marketing communication...??

Use of multimedia for marketing communication...

The use of interactive multimedia entertainment can be the solution to create a highly interactive environment where marketing, communication and training are being achieved without information being directly presented to the audience. While I was working for OCBC bank last year, I remembered the time when the bank came out with a range of multimedia used for marketing their products. One of them is the "Q" touch screen device, which displays at the outside of all branch premises. This device could engage the consumers to use the bank's services and products. The launch was quite a success as no other banks in Spore has come out with the idea yet.
Take a look at this website:
It is in a way a successful cooperation and something more that the world is looking for in future...

Multiple Intelligence, Intelligence Quotient & Emotional Quotient

The theory of multiple intelligences was proposed by Howard Gardner in 1983, to more accurately define the concept of intelligence. The 7 categories of intelligence are...
Bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, verbal-linguistic, logical mathematical, neutralistic, intrapersonal, visual spatial and musical.
A little bit on these aspects...

-Bodily-kinesthetic- People who have this intelligence usually learn better by getting up and moving around, and are generally good at physical activities such as sports or dance.
-Interpersonal- People who have a high interpersonal intelligence tend to be extroverts, characterized by their sensitivity to others' moods, feelings, temperaments and motivations, and their ability to cooperate in order to work as part of a group.
- Verbal-linguistic- People with high verbal-linguistic intelligence display a facility with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words along with dates.
-Logical Mathematical-Those with this intelligence naturally excel in mathematics, chess, computer programming and other logical or numerical activities
-Neutralistic- This has to do with nature, nurturing and relating information to one's natural surroundings, those with it are said to have greater sensitivity to nature and their place within it, the ability to nurture and grow things, and greater ease in caring for, taming and interacting with animals.
-Intrapersonal- Those who are strongest in this intelligence are typically introvert and prefer to work alone. They are usually highly self-aware and capable of understanding their own emotions, goals and motivations.
-Visual spatial-People with strong visual-spatial intelligence are typically very good at visualizing and mentally manipulating objects. Those with strong spatial intelligence are often proficient at solving puzzles.
-Musical- Those who have a high level of musical-rhythmic intelligence display greater sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music.

Emotional Quotient demonstrates the ability to identify, assess, and manage the emotions of one's self, of others, and of groups. *I feel that this is especially important for everyone to possess it as we are constantly dealing with different people. When one enters workforce, employers tend to seek out for individuals who could emotionally handle all aspects of the working life.

Intelligent Quotient on the other hand demonstrates a person's ability to acquire and aplly knowledge, as well as engaging in abstract reasoning.

Cyber Crimes (Spore)

Singapore has created new agencies and given its law enforcement personnel greater powers in its fight against these crimes since 1993. A study has identified Singapore as “the most network ready country” in the world. Hey, how true is that so..?

Singapore has chosen to follow the model of the United Kingdom by enacting legislation that addresses computer crime . In Singapore's Computer Misuse Act, those who obtain unauthorized access to computer material, modify the contents of a computer, obtain or intercept any computer service or function, interfere with or obstruct the lawful use of a computer, impede or prevent access to or impair the usefulness or effectiveness of any computer program or data, or disclosing a password, access code, or other means of gaining access to a program or data would be seriously dealt with by the law.

In what other ways have Singapore fight cyber crimes...

Well, Singapore has created law enforcement agencies with trained personnels to keep pace with the rapid technology advances. The Singapore Police Force has also been given additional power, e.g. extra-territorial jurisdiction, to aid in their efforts to counter cyber crimes.

Take a look at the video below, it was produced by Spore students and in it, it talks about a few cyber crimes which we may fall for..The video is very hilarious but its good effort produced by the students.

Making A Video...

The process of making a simple video...

Its been quite some time since I last blogged. The weeks had been busy for me as I was occupied with lots of mid-term papers. Nevertheless, I made and completed this simple video with the help of a friend. It was not as difficult as I thought, using and exploring Windows Movie Maker and making a simple video completed with audio. This short video shows beautiful scenes of Taiwan (Taipei 101, Ali-shan, Jianhu-shan etc.). There are also some photo shots of my family and the theme song of movie Cape No. 7 is used in this video. Overall, the experience of making a video is great and I enjoyed it. =)

E-Business...the info which i knew and have yet to know...

Having seen and gone through the topic of E-Business in Mr Abel Choy's lesson, I was quite happy and rather relieved as I remembered studying and acquiring prior knowledge of E-business during my poly days. Interdisciplinary studies were a must for us and "Understanding E-business" was what I took...

We could use e-commerce for a wide range of business functions which include

*Information sharing, ordering & payment, fulfilment and service & support.

The components of a 3-tier structure includes

*Client, server and the database management system

E-commerce uses several different kinds of messaging applications such as Email & Automated financial transactions

Some facts...

The above mentioned messaging applications require special security measures to protect the privacy of the sender and receiver. An example would be the SSL (Secure Socket Layer), a security protocol.

**SSL is used to secure confidential user information such as the credit card nos.

For instance, when an internet shopper is ordering roses from an online flower store...

The SSL will first authenticate the server using a public key. It means to the shopper that he/she is communicating with the flower store and not some other sites.

Secondly, client authentication is done using a private key and this in turn, proves to the online flower store that the client is indeed "real".

Once the credit card number is authenticated, the online store will proceed with the ordering.

Thirdly, data integrity(protection of transmitted data) is ensured so as not to enable a hacker to modify any info using integrity check-value.

Lastly, SSL provides confidentiality by encrypting the transmitted data.
